Best Digital Piano Under 500 Dollars
Which digital pianos are the best? Which is the best digital piano for beginners? What is the best digital piano for professionals? These are all questions that should be answered before choosing a digital piano, since the best digital piano for each of these situations may not be the best overall digital piano for all players.
For those beginning to play the piano, or for those just starting out, the roland grand piano might be the best choice. The roland grand piano is relatively inexpensive, with some of the models selling for as little as a hundred dollars. In addition, this model offers many of the same features as older models at a fraction of the cost, making it a great value for the budget conscious player who is just getting started.
The roland grand piano is well constructed, and offers both low and high tones. Along with its crisp, rich tone, it has a deep bass and a mid-range feel. This instrument also has the option of having different keys in various octaves, allowing the player to adjust to different kinds of sounds. As a result, this digital keyboard can be a good starting point for the beginning piano player.
Other models that might be good choices for the beginning pianist are the Yamaha keyboard (or keyboard/earphones), Jupiter pianos, and Peavey grand pianos. The Yamaha keyboard is another solid option, offering several choices in different octaves and different brands. For those who are not constrained by price in their home use, the Jupiter and Peavey products may be right for the novice piano player. The Jupiter offers connectivity with other instruments (like guitars, and keyboards); a microphone input for keyboards and headphones; and built-in speakers. While this last feature is not as useful for the beginner, those who love to hear music with their surround sound system can certainly appreciate this additional feature.
The Jupiter is another quality product, offering an attractive price and a number of features. It has a powerful built-in speaker system with a sub woofer for excellent stereo sound. It has two levels of volume control, an on-off switch for quick changes, and is lightweight and small enough to easily fit on a desktop. It is an affordable choice that delivers excellent sound quality. Like the Yamaha, it too has on-off switch and volume control switches, as well as an on-off switch for quick changes.
As with the Yamaha, the Jupiter offers quite good portability, if not the same size. However, it does not seem to have a particularly large sound range, compared to some of the acoustic pianos, and is best suited to pianos played on the upper level of notes. This does not mean that those pianos that are played at lower levels are not suitable with the Jupiter, as some of them may be quite full sounding. What it does mean is that they will produce less sound on high pitches than they will on lower ones.
The Jupiter also has excellent connectivity options, with several pieces of hardware being included - including an audio interface with USB and FireWire connections, as well as MIDI capability. One of its many benefits is that the onboard digital keyboard comes with a built-in metronome, which can be used as part of a metronome sequencer. This is convenient if you want to vary the tempo of your recordings and is a useful addition for those looking to learn to play on a regular basis. In addition, the Jupiter also features a THX-certified audio output, which is a THX-approved monitoring system that enables the user to hear the music through speakers, without any additional speakers. It has also been certified by THX to output clearer audio than other monitor systems.
Other connectivity options include: optical and USB midi interface, headphones, and via the internet (through your laptop). The THX-certified monitor provides a much more realistic display than others on the market, and this is very noticeable when watching a video. One thing that users do complain about is that there is no headphone jack - in other brands, you can get one but it's just not very common, so it's nice that the Jupiter has it. The THX certification means that there are no distortions or noises when connected to headphones, which is important if you plan to use the instrument for live performances. The monitor also provides an accurate display of pitch, as well as enabling users to hear notes that are not possible with other types of software. Overall, the Jupiter provides excellent sound, and all of the other connectivity options are great for beginners.
